The Fort
Fort Dorchester High School, which opened its doors in 1992, is a suburban, comprehensive high school nestled in the pines of lower Dorchester County. It serves approximately 2,400 students. One hundred thirty five faculty members teach over 810 classes. Instruction includes the IB program, Advanced Placement, Honors, College Prep, Dual Credit with Trident Tech, Occupational and Special Services.
Named for Old Fort Dorchester, which is located on the Ashley River, Fort Dorchester is a proud member of Dorchester School District Two. Affectionately known as “The Fort,” the Patriot is the school’s mascot and the faculty and staff refer to each other as “Patriot Family.”
In 2007, Fort Dorchester renewed its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and self-selected to become a High Schools that Work site. In 2008, Fort Dorchester also accepted the challenges set forth in the Personal Pathways legislation to create 4 schools of study based on 16 career clusters and over 50 majors.
